Dr. Rita Sánchez and Sean Peters led a two-day workshop for educators from the BioBus, a mobile science education lab.

CTSC Professional Development facilitators Dr. Rita Sánchez and Sean Peters led a two-day workshop for the staff of the BioBus on September 7th and 8th at Teachers College. The BioBus is a mobile research grade lab housed in a refurbished bus, which travels to schools around the country, allowing students to interact with scientists and professional equipment. The Center’s team collaborated with Biobus to develop curriculum in line with the Next Generation Science Standards and NYS core curriculum.

During the workshop, our facilitators and BioBus educators discussed strategies to “reshape” students’ view of science. Using Understanding by Design (UbD) as a framework, BioBus educators designed authentic, engaging science activities, which related to interdisciplinary STEM concepts and standards. As the school year begins, the BioBus team is moving forward their curriculum design work, and continuing to enhance the on the bus learning experience for students.
