The Center for Technology and School Change (CTSC) at Teachers College, Columbia University is partnering with the City College of New York to evaluate the federally-funded CiPASS initiative. The 2017 - 2022 CiPASS program implements academic-minded and socially-relevant student services designed to support the long-term retention of college students -- and in particular, Hispanic college students -- within STEM majors. Sample programs include: (1) a Summer Bridge initiative to provide incoming students with pre-algebra experiences prior to their enrollment in freshman coursework; (2) an experiential learning component which provides STEM students with opportunities to work and solve problems within the field; and, (3) and Early Alert system which texts students when they fall below academic standards in STEM courses, and invites them to sign-up for free tutoring. CTSC is providing both formal and informal evaluation feedback to support the refinement and informed scale-up of the most successful CiPASS program components over time.
